Recovery through Evidence-Based Treatment Modalities

C.U.R.A. provides compassionate, evidence-based treatment for men in Alameda County suffering from substance use disorders (SUD).

For more than fifty years, C.U.R.A., Inc. has stood as a beacon of hope for individuals seeking a life free from drugs and alcohol. With deep roots in the Bay Area, our programs are designed to support adult men on their journey to lasting recovery, self-discovery, and community reintegration. Through our Residential Treatment, Recovery Residence, and Aftercare programs, C.U.R.A. provides a structured, supportive path to change that’s grounded in mutual respect and accountability.

Residential Treatment: A Therapeutic Community

At the heart of C.U.R.A.’s approach is our Residential Therapeutic Community in Fremont, California. Here, recovery is not just an individual effort—it’s a community experience.

In this structured environment, residents take an active role in each other’s recovery while C.U.R.A. staff maintain a safe and stable space. This mutual accountability fosters growth, emotional healing, and behavioral change. Residents participate in a wide range of programming designed to build life skills and support sustainable recovery, including:

  • Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment

  • Humanities Seminars

  • Job Readiness Training

  • One-to-One Counseling

  • Group Dynamics

  • Transitional Housing

  • Independent Living and Aftercare

  • Community Service

This immersive experience helps participants address their past behaviors, reconnect with their core values, and build a foundation for a fulfilling future.

C.U.R.A. Recovery Residence

Recovery Residence: Transitional Living in Oakland

Located in Oakland, C.U.R.A.’s Recovery Residence (Sober Living Environment) is an extension of our therapeutic community. It offers transitional housing for men who are moving toward independent living but still need structure and support.

The focus in this phase is on securing full-time employment, developing a sober support network, and embracing healthy, independent living. It’s a crucial stepping stone that empowers individuals to take control of their lives while maintaining the progress they’ve made in residential treatment.

Eligibility: The Recovery Residence is open to adult men (18+) who are committed to living a sober life. While C.U.R.A. works closely with courts, probation, parole, and referral agencies, applicants with a history of sex offenses, arson, suicidal ideation, or acute psychosis are not eligible. Those with active Hepatitis C or tuberculosis must be medically cleared before admission. HIV-positive applicants are welcome.

Aftercare: Continued Support for Lifelong Recovery

Recovery doesn’t end when a program does. C.U.R.A.’s Aftercare Program, located next to our Admissions office, provides ongoing support to alumni as they navigate the challenges of daily life.

Through weekly sessions and continued guidance, participants gain:

  • A deeper understanding of addiction and recovery

  • Tools to set and achieve goals

  • Strategies for recognizing and avoiding relapse triggers

Aftercare reinforces the progress made in earlier phases and helps individuals stay connected to a strong recovery community.
